The Helmet has a sensor that can recognize whether the user is wearing it.

This mechanism will help saving the battery by turning off the helmet when it is off the user’s head and it also helps to distinguish a normal helmet drop from an critical head impact.

Speed will be measured using an accelerometer on the helmet.

The helmet will give warnings if the user rides too fast (depends on which road the user is on, but typically over 80km/h).

Users can turn off the feature.

When connected to user’s phone over Bluetooth, the helmet becomes a helpful assistant that can do a lot of jobs such as:

• Giving directions with the help of Google Maps.
• Reminding user to do things. For example, you need to buy something, you can set the reminder and when you put the helmet on, it will remind you to buy it or when you get to the shop the helmet will remind you.
• Handling calls, messages, and other notification. For example, when a call is coming, user can stop riding to answer the call or choosing to ignore it by giving voice commands. Messages and other notification can also be read through voice commanding.
• Using Bluetooth, the helmet can act as a Bluetooth tag, which can be located by user’s phone. It is especially helpful to locate the user’s bike in a parking site.

To identify an critical impact, we use HIC (head injury criterion). It will help us detect both types of impact that can cause head injury.

• Very severe impact.
• Consecutive strong impacts.

When the HIC score of the incident met the user-defined level, emergency signal system will be activate, which will signal other people for help.

For short the process is:

A dash camera is built-in and it is recording the last moments when an incident occurs, the recorded video will be very helpful to investigate the cause and giving more information about how the incident happens. Usually, the camera is recording for at least last 5 minutes, but users can choose to extend the maximal length, but the maximal size must be smaller than 90% of the memory. When the a potential incident that can cause injuries is detected, last 5 minute (or more if the user redefined) of recorded video will be cut and saved to a different place for latter use and the camera will continue to record. There is a built-in default memory of 8GB and the memory can be extend by an external microSD card.

The angle of the camera is about 120 degree.

It is an infrared camera, so it can record in low light condition.

The resolution is in HD.

The signal will contain important data, include:

• GPS location and time of the crash
• HIC score (the level of severity)
• The vehicle’s speed
• A photo right before the crash (if internet access is present)

The signal is sent through following main channels:

• SMS over the user’s phone
• SMS over helmet’s SIM module
• Cellular data from user’s phone

User can customize whether to use which channels. Use more channels will increase the reliability of the system, in case of some devices is not working during the incident.

Receipents of the messages are pre-determined by the user.
